Modern Classic Bath
The Modern Classic Bath is a full gut renovation that transformed a dated bathtub bathroom into a brighter and more functional space centered on a new walk-in shower. Berkshire Build & Craft provided the design and construction management for this tub-to-shower bathroom remodel, coordinating a relocated vanity, renewed building systems and finishes that balance modern simplicity with the home’s traditional character.
A navy Shaker-style vanity with a light-veined countertop provides a strong focal point beside the new shower. Large-format stone-look porcelain tile, a recessed storage niche and polished fixtures give the shower a clean contemporary appearance, while white wall tile and hexagonal flooring retain a more classic connection to the original room. New lighting, ventilation and plumbing fixtures complete the updated space.
The toilet remained in its established location, but the vanity was relocated to improve the room’s organization. The original bathtub and surrounding tile were removed and replaced with a walk-in shower within the same general area. Portions of the existing hexagonal floor were preserved where practical, with new matching tile carefully installed and blended into the retained sections.
The gut renovation exposed the room’s framing and concealed utilities so the new shower, vanity and supporting systems could be properly coordinated. The principal challenge was routing new plumbing through the limited space available within the existing walls and floor. New plumbing, fixtures, lighting and ventilation were installed before the room was rebuilt, producing a compact bathroom that feels brighter, more useful and appropriately connected to the character of the home.
