Vintage Tile Bathroom
Designed to bring vintage character into a fully modern room, this vintage tile bathroom remodel combines traditional proportions, extensive tilework and period-inspired fixtures with new plumbing, waterproofing and electric floor heat. Berkshire Build & Craft designed, managed and completed the project while retaining the existing fixture locations and working within the bathroom’s original footprint.

Although the fixture locations remained unchanged, the room was stripped back to the framing so its concealed systems could be renewed. New plumbing was installed throughout the walls and floor, and every fixture and finish was replaced. Keeping the established layout allowed the narrow bathroom to remain familiar and efficient while its materials, performance and appearance were completely transformed.

Construction included Schluter KERDI-BOARD waterproofing around the bathtub, an uncoupling membrane and electric floor heating beneath the new mosaic floor. Approximately 6,000 individual wall and floor tiles required careful planning to maintain consistent courses, balanced borders and clean transitions around the windows, doors, fixtures and storage cabinet.

The finished vintage tile bathroom demonstrates how a compact existing room can be fully modernized without losing its relationship to the home. New plumbing, waterproofing and floor heat provide reliable performance, while the detailed tilework and period-inspired fixtures give the space a distinctive character that feels intentional and appropriate to its surroundings.
